AITHENA in the new CORDIS Results Pack on CCAM

Building European capacity for Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM) is a crucial step towards achieving a safer, more efficient, and accessible road transport system. The European Commission’s Strategic Dialogue on the Automotive Industry, launched in January 2025, underlines the importance of transforming the automotive sector to meet the demands of a fast-changing and competitive world.

CCAM technologies offer innovative solutions that improve transport efficiency and safety while promoting environmental sustainability. CCAM is of great importance to CINEA, the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency.

The Horizon Europe Framework Programme for Research and Innovation has allocated EUR 500 million to support the development and demonstration of highly automated and connected driving systems under the Cluster 5 on Climate, Energy and Mobility. The automated mobility topics are developed in collaboration with the CCAM Partnership, which is a public-private initiative that brings together over 200 stakeholders from academia, industry, and policymaking to speed up the advancement of CCAM technologies and services in Europe.

“New CORDIS Results Pack: Building European capacity for Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility”

“This new CORDIS Results Pack highlights 15 EU-funded projects addressing the technological, regulatory and social challenges of automated transport systems, paving the way for more sustainable and equitable transport in the future.”

AITHENA article: “Self-driving technologies need user-friendly AI” is available in English, German, Spanish, French, Italian and Polish.

“When we drive a car, we know why we steer in a particular direction, change lanes or brake,” says AIthena project coordinator Oihana Otaegui from Vicomtech in Spain. “But when we are in an automated car, it is possible that we don’t fully understand what is going on. The AI is like a black box – information goes in, and a decision comes out.”
