This week we introduce next AIthena consortium partner: Applus+ IDIADA
Applus+ IDIADA provides a wide range of services to leading global automotive companies, including design, engineering, testing, and homologation. With over 3,000 professionals and a presence in 22 countries, they offer comprehensive services for vehicle development projects, including passive and active safety, powertrain, comfort, reliability, and electronics. They also have test tracks in Spain and China with state-of-the-art facilities, ensuring high levels of safety and confidentiality.
Applus+ IDIADA is accredited in various countries and offers services such as virtual product design, vehicle testing, functional and systems testing, and vehicle homologation and certification.
What is the role of Applus+ IDIADA and the team in the project? What are you currently working on in the project?
1. AI Human-Centric Approach: We contribute by providing valuable insights and data related to vehicle operations and interactions, which are essential for evaluating the human-centric aspects of Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems. Your organization’s data can be used to assess how AI impacts human factors in the context of Connected and Cooperative Automated Mobility (CCAM). Team: Francesco Deiana, Fiona Azcarate
2. Vehicle Data Life Cycle Management and Generation: The organization plays a central and critical role in this work package. We contribute significantly in:

4. Tools and Testing Facilities: Contribute by providing insights into the tools and facilities needed for effective data management, including data storage infrastructure and data access tools. We ensure that the data collected and managed in Work Package 2 is readily accessible for testing and validation purposes. Team: Xavi Boabén
5. Execute Work Package 5 Use Cases Test Scenarios in IDIADA’s Proving Ground: In this work package, our organization has a hands-on role in executing use case test scenarios at IDIADA’s proving ground. Team: Xavi Boabén
From your perspective, how do you see the contribution of the AIthena project to building trustworthy, explainable, and accountable AI-based CCAM?
We believe that the project will contribute positively to the development of reliable AI, primarily due to its emphasis on eliciting requirements from users of vehicles utilizing Connected and Cooperative Automated Mobility (CCAM) systems. By actively engaging users and gathering their input, the project ensures that AI systems are not only technically advanced but also aligned with the real-world needs and expectations of those who interact with them. This user-centric approach enhances the trustworthiness of AI, fostering a safer and more dependable environment for CCAM technologies, as it prioritizes the human factor in the development process.
